Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding

Everyone is familiar with the popular Atlanta upscale restaurant Dantanna’s ,who’s Buckhead location is known for its steaks and seafood. Since opening that location in 2003, you can now find Dantanna’s in other parts of the city including Sandy Springs. What sets this location apart is its neighborhood feel, but with a diverse menu that will cater to anyone, using fresh local ingredients.

I went solo on this trip, so I sat at the bar with hopes of sparking up some conversation with others sitting there. Single lady at the bar? I’m sure to end up having a conversation with someone and I did 🙂 I ordered an old-fashioned which has become quite popular for me when it comes to cocktails. The bartender did not skimp on the alcohol which is just how I like my drinks and the muddled cherries and orange added a nice subtle flavor making it a bit different.

Baked Goat Cheese

I came pretty hungry, so for an appetizer I ordered the baked goat cheese in marinara with grilled baguettes. I know your thinking, “damn that sounds pretty fancy for a tavern”, but that’s what makes this restaurant unique from other taverns. The marinara is made in-house, quite flavorful and when you pair that with the creamy goat cheese on top of the toasty bread, you have a winner. It was also garnished with fresh basil that they grow at the restaurant.

Pesto Airline Chicken Breast

For an entrée I went with the pesto airline chicken breast served with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. The chicken is pan-seared, which is what gives it the amazing crispy skin on the outside and is then roasted in the oven which locks in the juices and flavor and it is then topped with a creamy pesto sauce that is made in-house. Pesto is a combination of basil, garlic, pine nuts and olive oil.

The mashed potatoes were good and creamy and although the spinach was flavored well with the fresh garlic it could have used just a touch of salt.

Ok…lets bow our heads for a moment of silence for this bread pudding…lol

Listen, there’s no need in crying about your ass getting bigger when you eat this, you already know what time it is lol. If you love krispy kreme (and I mean who doesn’t?) this is an absolute must try. It was topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce with fresh strawberries and whipped cream on the side. It’s not like any kind of bread pudding I’ve had before as it was bit drier. But I’m not complaining, this was very very good. If you’re feeling guilty about trying this, bring someone with you so that you don’t eat it all yourself, because you will want to.

What I like about this Dantanna’s location is that it is very important for them to offer a chef driven menu, but in a casual environment. Using fresh ingredients and making a lot of their sauces in-house, is what sets them a part from a lot of other taverns..

Have you been to Dantanna’s? What did you order?
